The year 2020 will forever be remembered as the year that brought all the peoples of the Earth together to collaborate in defeating a common enemy, so that the word “war” would no longer be used. We were forced to remain at home for months, to give up our daily routines. Many things were missed during quarantine, but many others were rediscovered and deeply appreciated. 2020 taught us to place greater value on every single moment, to appreciate the simplicity of small things. We adapted in order to survive and to overcome this difficult period, as we have done since the beginning of time. This work seeks to tell, in my own way, the story of that period, conveying what we missed the most: freedom, which for me is represented by the sea, by a horizon that never ends, and by the memory of when I was a child, building sandcastles on the beach.

Il 2020 sarà, per sempre, ricordato come l’anno che ha portato tutte le popolazioni della Terra a collaborare per sconfiggere un nemico comune affinché non si usasse più la parola guerra. Siamo stati costretti a rimanere in casa per mesi, a rinunciare alla nostra quotidianità. Tante sono le cose che ci sono mancate, durante la quarantena, ma tante altre sono quelle che abbiamo potuto apprezzare. Il 2020 ci ha insegnato a dare più valore ad ogni singolo momento, ad apprezzare la semplicità delle piccole cose. Ci siamo adattati per sopravvivere e per superare questo periodo difficile, come facciamo dall’inizio dei tempi. Quest’opera vuole raccontare, a modo mio, questo periodo, trasmettendo quello che più ci è mancato: la libertà che per me è rappresentata dal mare, dall’orizzonte che non ha mai una fine, dal ricordo di quando ero bambino, e costruivo castelli di sabbia sulla spiaggia.
